Cultural Commemoration on the 140th Anniversary of Vahan Terian at the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia
On May 13, a cultural event was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to mark the 140th anniversary of the renowned Armenian poet Vahan Terian.
The opening speech by Ambassador Viktor Yengibaryan was delivered by the Embassy Counselor Lusine Davtyan. As part of the event, Shirak Torosyan, Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and Chairman of the "Javakhk" Homeland and Charity Organization, gave an address.
Among the guests were Marti Petzold, member of the Berlin House of Representatives, and the Honorary Consuls of Armenia in the German federal states of Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, Prof. Lucas Flöther and Michael Schmidt. Numerous German partners of the embassy and representatives of the Armenian community were also in attendance.
During the evening, the well-known novel “Fräulein Bertha Garlan” by Austrian writer Arthur Schnitzler was presented. The publication was initiated and supported by Shirak Torosyan. Vahan Terian had translated and published this novel in Armenian as early as 1912. It has now been reissued bilingually – in Armenian and German.
Poems by Vahan Terian were read in both Armenian and German throughout the event, accompanied by musical performances. Honorary Consul Professor Lucas Flöther also read from German translations of Terian’s works.
